  Degrees in Music

 

 


The Adrian College Music Department offers comprehensive degree programs fully certified by the state of Michigan and aligned with the standards set by the National Association of Schools of Music (NASM). Most music degrees are designed to be completed within four years.

 

We offer the following degrees in Music:

 

Bachelor of Music in Performance (B.M.)

Bachelor of Music in Music Education (B.M.E)

Bachelor of Arts in Music (B.A.)

Bachelor of Arts in Arts Mgt - Music (B.A.)

Bachelor of Arts in Musical Theatre (B.A.)

Music Minor

 

Below is an outline of required music courses for each degree program. The courses are laid out in the recommended sequence of instruction from freshman through senior year.  Remember to include General Studies in your planning..

 

 

Course requirements for Bachelor of Music in Performance (BM)

The BM in Performance is a highly intensive degree program focusing on the development the individual's ability on his/her instrument, with a concentration on connecting music theory and history to performance practice. Remember to include General Studies in your planning.

Course requirements for Bachelor of Music in Music Education (BME)

The BME is a highly intensive degree program that balances musical training with a thorough preparation for teaching music in the K-12 public school system. This is a four - year degree program that provides ample hands-on experience through public school classroom observation, field work and student teaching.  Remember to include General Studies in your planning.

The BA in Music is a liberals arts degree with a focus on Music, providing a strong foundation in musical skills and knowledge while allowing time to explore other fields of interest. This degree is ideal for the individual who wishes to double major in another field in addition to Music (for instance Business or Psychology). The Arts Management degree allows students to gain knowledge and expertise in the fields of Music and Business. An internship experience with a local recording studio, community concert hall, or symphony orchestra gives students the opportunity work in the music industry. Through a combination of Music, Dance and Theatre classes, students gain experience and knowledge in Musical Theatre Performance. Stage productions and scene workshops are an important part of this degree program. Opportunities to perform in local community stage productions are also a regular part of this program.
