Students at Adrian College have the opportunity to
sing in the College Choir and the Chamber Choir.
Singers may also choose to participate in Opera
Workshop, Musical Theatre Workshop, and the annual
musical theatre stage production. Our choirs
are made up of students from across the campus,
including music majors as well as students from
almost every other department. Many students take
private voice lessons as part of their college arts
requirements. The choirs regularly go on tour
and perform throughout the year for special events
and concerts.
The Adrian
College Choir consists of 80 men and women
who sing a wide variety of song literature including
cantatas, octavos, gospel and folk songs, and World
Music. Recent large works with orchestra include the
Faure "Requiem", the Lauridsen "Lux Aeterna", and
Beethoven's "Choral Fantasie". In 2006,
The College Choir performed at Carnegie Hall in New
York City. In May 2007, the choir traveled to
Jamestown, Virginia where they performed as a part
of
America's 400th Anniversary Celebration at
Jamestown Anniversary Park and took part in a CBS
Television Special. The College Choir has
been invited to perform at the Pre-Olympics Music
Festival in
Beijing, China celebrating the 2008 Summer Olympics.
GET
INVOLVED: Research in 2007 shows that almost
three-quarters of today's business executives (73%)
were involved in some type of music program while in
school. Just over three quarters (77%) recommend
their children get involved in music at their
schools and just under half (47%) support music
programs by donating money. Cumulatively, the longer
that executives participated in music programs, the
more successful they became in life.
