  Band Schedule

Dr. Marty Marks, Director of Bands mmarks@adrian.edu

 A letter from Dr. Marks:

Hi, Everyone!

It would be very helpful to all involved to let me know if you have no intention of continuing with band.  I am currently planning fall slots for our halftime shows, and I only want to use a small number of alternates.  So, if you are done with band, please leave a message at 517-264-3879 or mmarks@adrian.edu as soon as possible.  I would really appreciate it!

If you are planning to be in band this fall, or if you are UNDECIDED, please respond to let me know your status.  That way, I know you received this letter or email.  I don’t want to leave anyone out due to lack of communication!

Incoming freshmen and transfers - Have you auditioned for a scholarship?  You should consider doing it, even if you have lots of money from other sources.  Scholarship offers look good on resumes even if you don’t use the money.  Call or email me to set up your audition - it’s short, easy, and a lot less stressful than you might think.  (Note: If you can’t visit the campus any time soon, you can audition by recording - call me for details.)  Further, you don’t have to be a band genius to qualify.  I only need to know that you know what you’re doing.

Athletes - if you are planning to participate in ANY varsity or JV sports or cheer/pom/dance, you can participate as much as your schedule allows and still be in band in some capacity (meaning you get to use the band scholarship money).  Don’t decide to retire from band until you know how much will be required of you!  One of the reasons I have had such good bands in my career is because I work well with busy students and coaches.  Give me a try!

On the next page you will find a fall schedule.  It should be fairly complete.  In the near future, you will be able to access the band syllabus at www.adriancollegemusic.org .  The syllabus will outline costs of participation (not very much and billed to your Adrian account), grading and attendance rules.  You will find this schedule a lot less demanding than high school marching band!

Check this schedule against your personal calendar.  When you discover conflicts, let me know.  I can be very flexible with people who are kind enough to give me advance notice!  If you have a lot of conflicts, don’t assume your band career is over.  Just call or email me!

I will be gone for some of the summer, but I will check my email daily at mmarks@adrian.edu.  Please contact me with your questions!

Sincerely,

Marty Marks
